I have been fortunate enough to be able to view Milano Kennels documentation (22 pieces) proving that GianFranco has certified his breeding pairs for Hips, Cardiac and Knees. GianFranco is Exclusivebreeders very first "Elite" breeder. Congratulations to GianFranco for outstanding excellence and dedication to his dogs. BRAVO!! Keep up the good work. Debbie and Jean

I purchased a Newfoundland puppy from Gianfranco in 2002, corresponding with
him for about a year prior. My dog has been in excellent health since I got
him. Gianfranco's kennel was extremely clean with outdoor runs. The puppies
were inside in a nice area downstairs. Mine was one of only 2 pups born to
Jade.
I believe there were 2-3 Newfoundlands and 2-3 Golden adults. I signed a
contract, all papers were received quickly, a health certificate with shots
& worming information. I received information regarding hips, eyes, heart
and cystinuria testing as well as photos of dam & sire.
I would absolutely recommend him as a quality breeder of Newfoundlands and
Goldens. He was a pleasure to deal with, always prompt with phone questions
or email.

I rarely wright in english.  I hope you will understand what I'm trying to say.  These are my ansers to your questions:
1. How long have you known this breeder?
Almost one year
2. If you have purchased an adult or puppy from this breeder, can you describe his/her over all health?
My puppy is a male, Golden Retreiver.  It was 3 months old at the time of the puchase.  It's now one year old and it's in great shape!  Never sick.
3. If you visited the home/kennel where the puppy/adult was housed can you describe the living conditions? Cleanliness? Number of adults and pups?
Yes, I went to Gianfranco's place.  Puppies were kept inside the house, in a very large room.  Adults were outside, in the yard.  The house and the room where the puppies were kept were very clean.  In the yard there were four or five adults and in the room there were more or less ten puppies, brothers and sisters of my dog.
4. Can you tell me if you received the proper paperwork for your puppy/adult in a timely manner or as per the contract?
Yes, Gianfranco gave me all the required papers in a timely manner.
5. Do you know if the pup/adult was current on all shots/inoculations?
Yes, it was.
6. Was the adult (dam/sire) given extra testing before being bred? E.g.. CERF, OFA, etc.,
I can't say for sure because I don't remember that specifically.  I know that the parents were in very good health. Gianfranco took great care of his female and he also took every possible steps to ascertain that the male he has borrowed for reproduction was fine too.
7. Were you advised, either verbally or in writing about the breed characteristics, possible health concerns for this breed, or more specifically to the pup/adult you have purchased?
Yes, Gianfranco told me a lot of things about my dog, gave me many advises, etc. and I'm still in touch with him so he can answer my questions at anytime.
8. Would you purchase from the above breeder again?
Yes I would.
9. Do you have any other comments? Please fell free to expand on your experience.
Ok, my dog is beautiful (that's what I wanted, I paid 1200$ for that and I'm very satisfied).  Gianfranco is a very good guy, he loves his animals and takes good care of them.  I think he's very commendable.
Thank you.

I have done business with Mr. Bottaro for close to 8 years. I sell him dog food. I have never met him, although he is very pleasant in our dealings over the phone, nor have I ever seen his premises or dogs. He pays a lot of money, compared to many breeders, for his food, so I would think that he is a reputable breeder concerned with the health and welfare of his dogs.

#4

I never saw any of his dogs, but I’ve heard a bit about his dogs and he seems to be a very good breeder. I know tho that he does test all his breeding dogs, feeds them very well, take care of them properly.
Mr Bottaro also writes occasionally for our K9 French publication (holistic). He does the same thing for Italian K9 publication and, I think, for an English one.
Mr Bottaro is very implicated in the dog world, and “well” implicated. I know that he never sells any dog to someone who shouldn’t have one of if the person is looking for the wrong breed.

1. How long have you known this breeder?   5 years.
2. If you have purchased an adult or puppy from this breeder, can you
describe his/her over all health? I have purchased a very beautiful and
healthy dog who is 5 years old now. He neved had major health problems.
3. If you visited the home/kennel where the puppy/adult was housed can you
describe the living conditions? Cleanliness? Number of adults and pups? I
remember well that kennel because it was the first time I saw a place so
cozy and clean for dogs. Those dogs are treated better than many humans
are.
4. Can you tell me if you received the proper paperwork for your
puppy/adult in a timely manner or as per the contract? Yes, everything was perfect.
5. Do you know if the pup/adult was current on all shots/inoculations? Yes
6. Was the adult (dam/sire) given extra testing before being bred? E.g..
CERF, OFA, etc., Yes, Gianfranco showed us all the certifications
concerning hips, eyes, elbows and heart clearances.
7. Were you advised, either verbally or in writing about the breed
characteristics, possible health concerns for this breed, or more
specifically to the pup/adult you have purchased? Yes, Gianfranco took the
time to explain us a lot of valuable and helpful subjects concerning the
Golden retrievers.
8. Would you purchase from the above breeder again? I surely would.
9. Do you have any other comments? Please fell free to expand on your
experience. The only thing I have to say is Thank you Milano kennel for
this fantastic dog we actually consider as our third son.

1. How long have you known this breeder?  16 years
2. If you have purchased an adult or puppy from this breeder, can you

a blessing for our family with no health problems until she was 13 and
aging became hard on her.
3. If you visited the home/kennel where the puppy/adult was housed can you
describe the living conditions? Cleanliness? Number of adults and pups? At

best conditions possible.

Whenever I took Eileen out in  public she was the object of great
admiration.  We feel very fortunate to have raised such a wonderful dog.

My name is Hanna  me and my partner and I purchased a golden retriever from Gianfranco's Milano Kennel last August. We live in Florida and did extensive internet research into finding the perfect golden, and decided on Gianfranco after several lengthy conversations because of his friendliness and helpfulness, and because it was obvious how much he cared for his dogs. We flew to Quebec to pick her up because he wouldn't ship her air freight, which we were also happy about. I'll get to the questions here, in order:

1. We started talking to Gianfranco in June of 2005.
2. We purchased a puppy from Gianfranco, and she is in perfect health at almost one year. When she was spayed, we had her hips and elbows checked and the vet said they were perfect.
3. We visited Gianfranco's home and kennel in August of 2005 when we picked up our puppy and were very impressed. His kennels were very clean and well maintained, he had a wonderful soft lawn that we played with the puppies on, and he lived across the street from a river where he took the dogs to swim on occasion. Everything was very clean - the kennels, the yard, and the house. I'm not exactly sure how many dogs he had - 2 or three newfies, 4 adult Goldens, and two litters of golden puppies (one ready to be weaned and one only a few weeks old). One of the adult Goldens (who has since passed) lived in the house, and both litters of puppies stayed inside at night in pens - the weanlings alone and the young group with their mother - within hearing range of Gianfranco.
4. We received everything when expected.
5. The puppy was current on all shots and we were shown vet records.
6. Both the dam and the sire were certified (Hips, heart, and elbows) OFA or OFC, and although I don't remember the ratings, I'm sure they were above average - we were very particular in choosing only breeders that certified the parents.
7. We were very informed before we called any breeders about health concerns in Goldens, and Gianfranco also made sure that we knew about health concerns. He was also very clear that health was his first priority with all of his dogs and specifically in his breeding pairs. My grandmother has been a very well respected horse breeder for 60 years, and the priorities she has for her horses (health, athleticism, and beauty in that order) is a standard I always expect from breeders. I found Gianfranco to have excellent priorities in terms of breeding.
8. I would absolutely purchase another dog from Gianfranco and am in fact already planning to do so.
9. I'd like to say first here that I am so glad you are creating this kind of website. This is exactly what my partner and I looked for when seeking out a Golden, and I think it's wonderful that you are screening breeders - there is so much information to research before even choosing a breed, and it would have been wonderful if this site had existed when we were looking. I am also very glad to be able to recommend Gianfranco to you - our experience with him exceeded all of our expetations. He was incredibly friendly and welcomed us into his home. We played with the puppies, he showed us ours and gave us time to get to know her before her dinner, and then treated us to dinner and a wonderful visit. We now count him as one of our friends. He was also extremely helpful in choosing a puppy, and in fact changed our minds about what kind of dog we wanted. We went into our search for a golden looking for a male, and Gianfranco insisted that he had the perfect dog for us after asking us many questions about our life, work, and other pets. When I talk to him about our next puppy (which won't be for another few months) I don't have any expectations for what the dog will be - I want him to know as much as possible about our dog so he can choose the best playmate for her because his choice of our first Golden was so perfect. I can't express how great she is - she's only 10 months old and comes to work with me, sits in on meetings, plays with kids, stays close and calm in crowds, and is completely manageable at home and gets along perfectly with our 4 cats. She has been a joy to train. Everywhere we go with her, people comment on her friendliness, behavior, and beauty. We are very pet-conscious people and only feed our pets organic foods and treats with no fillers, and Gianfranco was especially helpful in choosing the right foods for Runa both for her first few months and for her adolescent and adult life. I really can't recommend Gianfranco enough, and if you have any questions, or if anyone asks for a personal reference, I'd be happy to talk to you on the phone. (For any phone numbers please contact the breeder directly. I have deleted this phone number for security reasons. Debbie EB)
Thank you again for putting this site together - it's a blessing for the responsible pure-bred pet buyer.
Sincerely,
Hanna

Hello! My name is Marie-Josée Longval. I know GianFranco for
more than a year. He's a very close friend. I work in a radio
station as a DJ, I have my own show and I usually talk
of GianFranco and his dogs on my web page. I am very confident
about GianFranco's work and I know he's very professional in every
part of his work.
I don't have dogs, but I love them! Each time I see one of Gianfranco's
dogs, I think to myself "One day, I want to have one of them." They
are so beautiful and GianFranco takes so much care of them.

1. How long have you known this breeder?  We have known Gianfranco for about a year now.
2. If you have purchased an adult or puppy from this breeder, can you describe his/her over all health? Our dog's health condition is perfect, we have not had any problems and the vet does not forsee any problems with her.
3. If you visited the home/kennel where the puppy/adult was housed can you describe the living conditions? Cleanliness? Number of adults and pups? The dogs living conditions were superb.  They were clean and well kept.  The kennels were very large and the dogs practically had the whole backyard to them.  The space was sufficient for the number of dogs that he had in each of his kennels.
4. Can you tell me if you received the proper paperwork for your puppy/adult in a timely manner or as per the contract?  I received all the necessary paperwork on time as per the contract had stated.
5. Do you know if the pup/adult was current on all shots/inoculations?  The dog was up to date on all of its shots and inoculations.
6. Was the adult (dam/sire) given extra testing before being bred? E.g.. CERF, OFA, etc.,  According to Gianranco everything was done to ensure we had a perfect puppy.
7. Were you advised, either verbally or in writing about the breed characteristics, possible health concerns for this breed, or more specifically to the pup/adult you have purchased?  Yes, we were advised prior to purchasing the pup of what to expect and we were matched up with the right puppy for our type of family with Gianfranco's questionnaire.
8. Would you purchase from the above breeder again?  YES!
9. Do you have any other comments? Please fell free to expand on your experience.  Gianfranco was very knowledgable about what we should do for our puppy to keep it happy and healthy.  He really gave us some great information on how to feed a dog properly.  We have had dogs before but didn't realize that there was so much more to a dog's proper nutrition.  Another great aspect of Gianfranco is he always keeps in touch and wants to know how things are going.  I think this is such a plus for a breeder to do.  He really cares about who and where his dogs are going.

A few years ago I had an inquiry from Gianfranco to purchase a show quality female puppy from me.  After many phone calls and such, I finally decided that Gianfranco would be an excellent home for one of my babies, and he did not prove me wrong!
He took excellent care of Bearbrook's Jade, and showed her to her championship, taking top winning Newfound bitch in Canada, along the way.  When she was of age, as promised, he had all of her certifications done.  He then came to me to ask who would be a good stud for her, and I suggested my male, Ch. Bearbrook's Tallship Whitewater.  He had a litter and took excellent care of them, and made sure they all went to wonderful homes.
The second time he bred Jade, it was to my co-owned male, Am. Can. Ch. Springhaven Bearbrook Bogart.  From this litter, John Cornell of Longship Newfoundlands, whom I co-own Bogie with, and I took a lovely bitch puppy, Indy.  Indy went on to be Am. Can. Ch. Milano 'N Bearbrook at Longship, and she too, got all of her health clearances.  A most wonderful and beautiful representative of the breed.
So, I am most happy to give a great reference to Gianfranco!  In the short time that he has been in Newfs, he has done remarkably well, and I am proud of his accomplishments.

Warm regards,

Hilda

1. How long have you known this breeder? 6 years

3. If you visited the home/kennel where the puppy/adult was housed can you describe the living conditions? Cleanliness? Number of adults and pups? I also recommended very interesting reading concerning the training and the education of my dog.
8. Would you purchase from the above breeder again? I am going to do so quite shortly
9. Do you have any other comments? Please fell free to expand on your experience. I want to say that I went through a  long journey of phone calls with a lot of breeders before finding Milano Kennels. When I talked to Gianfranco for the first time he asked a thousand and often personal questions. I wasn't really prepared to answer questions about the people who live with me, what hours I work, what kind of visitors I get, what my yard layout is like, what I am willing to spend, etc. A good breeder who cares (and YES, I did want one like this!) will want to ensure that his or her puppy is going to the best home. I wasn't prepared for nosiness but I welcomed it! Gianfranco is a great and responsible breeder who really cares a lot for his dogs, they are treated like members of the Royal family.

1. How long have you known this breeder? A year
2. If you have purchased an adult or puppy from this breeder, can you
describe his/her over all health? All the puppies of the litter looked very
sound and were happy to see us. If they are afraid of you, this means they
have not been socialized. They should be delighted to see you and want to
be picked up and all the pups were well socialized and very outgoing. My
puppy was maybe the most reserved one, but at five months of age we
discovered another dog, very demonstrative, yet very wise.
3. If you visited the home/kennel where the puppy/adult was housed can you
describe the living conditions? Cleanliness? Number of adults and pups?
Very clean and spacious. I think there were three adult Golden and two
Newfs, and of course the littermates of our Ben.
4. Can you tell me if you received the proper paperwork for your
puppy/adult
in a timely manner or as per the contract? Yes, we got the registration
paper quite soon.
5. Do you know if the pup/adult was current on all shots/inoculations? Yes,
we had proof of it.
6. Was the adult (dam/sire) given extra testing before being bred? E.g..
CERF, OFA, etc., Yes, Gianfranco showed us all the papers concerning the
testing on parents and grandparents.
7. Were you advised, either verbally or in writing about the breed
characteristics, possible health concerns for this breed, or more
specifically to the pup/adult you have purchased? Oh yes, Gianfranco gave
us a really through information concerning a lot subjects for the
well-being of our Ben, and he still does when we need his help.
8. Would you purchase from the above breeder again? Definitely YES!
9. Do you have any other comments? Please fell free to expand on your
experience.
I believe that a good breeder is trying to breed pups that are at least as
good as its parents, or, ideally, better. Good breeders breed only to
improve the breed and Gianfranco does it. Understand you are buying a
breeder as well as a puppy. Is this the person you want to go to with your
questions? Will you feel comfortable phoning this person for advice, and
will you trust the advice? With Gianfranco you can.

4. Can you tell me if you received the proper paperwork for your puppy/adult in a timely manner or as per the contract? Yes, no problem.

He keeps contact around the world with the puppies, I find that very professional and touching. He can spend an hour on the phone with you trying to help if you have a question or concern.

1. 1 year and a few months
2. The health is perfect! Great shape! I have two Goldens from Gianfranco,
and both are in wonderful shape. Everytime they go to the vet, I am told
they are in great shape, and they are very healthy. The vet says: "they both
have the perfect form for a Golden Retriever!"
3. I was lucky enough to stay overnight at the breeders home where the
kennel is located. I was extremely impresseed with the overall living
conditions. The set up for Miliano Kennels is professional, well-organized,
and plenty of hospitality. Futhermore, the Kennel is spacious for the dogs.
Milano Kennels is the ideal spot if you're looking for that TOP BREEDER-he
has it all at MILANO KENNELS!!!
4. Yes

6. Yes
7. Yes
8. Yes...without a thought!! More breeders should be like Gianfranco! I feel
so lucky to have found Milano Kennels.
9. If we were to divide the breeders up into two categories, like the good
breeders, and the top breeders, Gianfranco would be at the top of the TOP
BREEDERS. I believe it would be hard to find another breeder with all his
qualities. I've done the research for breeders 1 year ago, and couldn't find
any kennel that compared to MILANO KERNNELS. His dogs are the proof-that's
why I came home with not only one, but two beautiful, loving Goldens (Clancy
& Gracie).
I hope I was clear enough! If you have any further questions, I'd be happy
to answer them.

I bought a golden retriever puppy in september 2005. He was an is still in
perfect health.
3. If you visited the home/kennel where the puppy/adult was housed can you

I think so.
7. Were you advised, either verbally or in writing about the breed
characteristics, possible health concerns for this breed, or more specifically
to the pup/adult you have purchased?
Yes, the breeder advised me about dysplasia.
8. Would you purchase from the above breeder again?

The puppy is really kind and easy to breed. I think the breeder and the

1. How long have you known this breeder? 4 years
2. If you have purchased an adult or puppy from this breeder, can you
describe his/her over all health? I don't own a dog but I often help
Gianfranco with his.
3. If you visited the home/kennel where the puppy/adult was housed can you
describe the living conditions? Cleanliness? Number of adults and pups?
Everything is very clean and in perfect harmony for the dog's wellbeing.
actually, Gianfranco has 3 adult Goldens and 2 adult newfs at home, but
there are 4 more adult goldens and a newfy in foster homes in the same
town.
4. Can you tell me if you received the proper paperwork for your
puppy/adult in a timely manner or as per the contract? He does everything needed
scrupulously.
5. Do you know if the pup/adult was current on all shots/inoculations? same as above
6. Was the adult (dam/sire) given extra testing before being bred? E.g..
CERF, OFA, etc., Yes, all the dogs in the breeding program are certified.
7. Were you advised, either verbally or in writing about the breed
characteristics, possible health concerns for this breed, or more
specifically to the pup/adult you have purchased? Gianfranco researches all
the time new information about the wellbeing of the dogs, he also writes
for a couple of dog magazines about natural remedies.
8. Would you purchase from the above breeder again? yes, but at the moment
I leave in an apartment.
9. Do you have any other comments? Please fell free to expand on your
experience.

I would like to tell people (because I am often there personally to help)
what a quality breeder, as Gianfranco, does with his puppies:

1. A breeder who believes that no matter how great the pedigree, or how
wonderful the parents, the environment during the females pregnancy and 7
weeks after birth has a lasting unalterable effect on how a puppy behaves.

2. A breeder that bottle feeds the pups even when the litter is small and
mother has lots of milk. This bonds the puppy to human scent and associates
them with human handling, cuddling, nursing and most importantly, security.

3. A breeder that does toe-nail clipping while the puppies nurse, to
associate nail-clipping with a pleasant experience.

4. A breeder who, between 3 to 5 weeks, exposes the puppy to the noises of
pots and pans dropping, vacuum cleaners, washer/dryers, televisions etc.
This helps alleviate the fears of dogs that are easily spooked.

5. A breeder that constantly picks up, rocks, holds and tries to carry the
puppy everywhere.

6. A breeder that starts "bye-bye" at 5 weeks. A breeder that slowly
acclimates the puppy to car, van and/or trailering. During this time, they
also include loving experiences with children, other dogs, sleeping and
eating in strange surroundings, etc. This is a super-step toward prevention
of motion sickness.

7. A breeder who, at five weeks, teaches puppies to be separated from mom
and littler-mates and be self-confident enough in familiar surroundings not
to cry when alone. This practice is repeated through the 7th or 8th week.
New puppy owners then find the first night home, puppy doesn't cry and is
not unhappy, as being alone has never been an unhappy experience.

8. A breeder that starts leash training by the 5th or 6th week. Who's pups
already have a following instinct, because from early on they started by
calling "Puppy Come" in a loud and happy voice every time they are fed.
Calling your puppy to come and have it come, is difficult for many new
owners but not from breeders who exercise the above philosophy.

9. A breeder, that by 7 weeks can hide in the yard or be way out of sight
and when they yell "puppy come", all puppies come running.

10. A breeder that at 7 weeks, continues toe-nail clipping, brushing and
working on a table (playing Veterinarian and Judge). Puppies, such as these,
are not normally afraid of your Veterinarian or a Judge.

11. A breeder that does intelligent testing, retrieving testing, temperament
testing puppies through obstacle courses, and identifies Alpha, Beta and
Omega types.

12. A breeder that chronicles every litter with photographs, videos or both
[from birth to leaving for your home]....so you have a history of your pup.

13. A breeder that will also provide photographs of your pup's parents.

14. A breeder, who above all, wants to keep in touch and hear all about the
progress of your pup over the ensuing years

Hi,
In answer to your survey.

I know this breeder for almost a year, I never purchased any dog from him, but I am taking some of his dogs from time to time as a foster family.
I would recommend this breeder, I know how well he takes care of his dogs.

Thank you,
Sylvie

8.  Yes. of course.

1. How long have you known this breeder? - 3 1/2 Years
2. If you have purchased an adult or puppy from this breeder, can you describe his/her over all health? - Puppy - perfect bill of health - not one illness since I have had him which is 3 years this month.
3. If you visited the home/kennel where the puppy/adult was housed can you describe the living conditions? - I traveled from Chicago to Canada and visited the home when it was time to pick up our puppy.  The whelping area was inside the home, it was clean, no odor, the puppies smelled clean and looked healthy and were active.  There were 5 puppies and the mom was not  in the whelping area as they were no longer breast feeding.  The adult dogs were housed outside in a large kennel, each individual kennel was covered from the outside elements and were very clean.  At the time, there were (2) females and (1) male Golden and (2) Adult New Foundlands.
4. Can you tell me if you received the proper paperwork for your puppy/adult in a timely manner or as per the contract? I left with our puppy and all of the paperwork, pedigree, health certificate, contract, etc.
5. Do you know if the pup/adult was current on all shots/inoculations? - Yes, he provided the health certificate, hip clearance and shot record of the mother and father.
6. Was the adult (dam/sire) given extra testing before being bred? E.g.. CERF, OFA, etc., - Yes
7. Were you advised, either verbally or in writing about the breed characteristics, possible health concerns for this breed, or more specifically to the pup/adult you have purchased? - Yes, he told me to always check the ears because Goldens can be prone to ear problems, especially if they like to swim alot.  He said if I ever smelled a bad odor in the ears or if they looked dark pink to take him straight to the vet...which was good because I did not know this.  My dog swims in the ocean every week and we have never once had an ear problem.
8. Would you purchase from the above breeder again? - Most definitely
9. Do you have any other comments? Please fell free to expand on your experience. - Gianfranco was the most helpful and knowledgeable breeder I ever met.  I waited 2 years and did much research before finding him.  From day one he listened very carefully to what I wanted in my Golden, he reassured me that my dog would have the look and temperament I desired.  It was important to me that the Golden was not only beautiful but that the breeder care very much about the dogs, not just making money.  He educated me, helped me get through the scary first stages of puppy hood, from a runny nose to diarrhea, to most currently bad breath.  Even though my dog is now 3 years old I can e-mail or call him at anytime and ask him questions or what his opinion is on the best organic food to give, canned vs. dry, etc.  He has in my opinion the best looking goldens I have ever seen and treats all of us as though we are part of a large extended family and my Riley is the proof that I picked the best breeder.

1. How long have you known this breeder? Over 5 years
2. If you have purchased an adult or puppy from this breeder, can you describe his/her over all health? We purchased a Newfoundland puppy from Milano Kennel several years ago.  She is extremely healthy, happy & extremely loveable.  She has her yearly physicals & shots and has had no other problems. She is the picture of health & celebrated her 5th Birthday in December.  We did a lot of research into Milano Kennel prior to purchasing Desdemona, as we had gone through another Kennel over 11 years ago with only  researching the Newfoundland breed and not the breeder & had purchased a wonderful Newfie, Othello, that we had to be put down at an early age due to numerous health issues.  We didn't want to go through that again and really dug deep into Milano Kennel and were more than pleased with our results.
3. If you visited the home/kennel where the puppy/adult was housed can you describe the living conditions? Cleanliness? Number of adults and pups? The house was immaculate and the dogs were welcomed throughout the house.  The whelping box was extremely clean & had plenty of room for the pups.  Desdemona was 1 of 11 puppies, we were one of the first to be able to pick up our puppy, but all of the rest were spoken for & would be leaving within the next few days.  Jade, Desdemona's mother was also there & was in terrific shape, which was amazing giving birth to 11 babies.  The outside area was fenced in for the dogs & we were able to spend some time, with Jade.  You could tell that the adults & puppies were very well cared for & loved.
4. Can you tell me if you received the proper paperwork for your puppy/adult in a timely manner or as per the contract? Yes we did
5. Do you know if the pup/adult was current on
